Tens of you e-mail The Correctness, having recognized our competence at guiding you through your journey to being Correct. You ask us “Correctness, what should I spend time on this weekend.” And so, we bring you our recommendations. Not all will be current releases, but all will be worthwhile.

Dave:

Movie: Blindness (2008)
Unknown

Directed by Fernando Meirelles, this film was not so much appreciated at the box office. We’re not sure why. It’s a wonderfully crafted film, both in acting and cinematography. It’s not an easy film to watch, but certainly worth the reward.

Music: How We Operate – Gomez (2006)

Gomez-How_We_Operate_b

I caught these guys at a folk festival over the summer. They were fantastic, and the show was spoiled only by some douchebag, as chronicled here. The album is really solid, and I love the rotating lead singer, and the variety that brings.

Comic Book: Batman and Robin

bmrob_cv1

Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely have launched the new age of The Batman in style, with a big, bright, crazy start. We’re at issue 3, and loving the whole deal. Dick Grayson is Batman, Damian Wayne (Bruce’s illegitimate son with the daughter of Ra’s Al Ghul) is a surly Robin, and they’ve moved out of Wayne Manor, and into town. Leaving aside the fact that Morrison will almost certainly implode into nonsense, as he pretty much always does after a while, and that Quitely is leaving the book, it’s still a must read.

Beverage: Newcastle Ale

Newcastle_Brown_Ale

Newcastle is a fine little ale, dark and brooding, with a hint of … ah screw it. I just like it. Try it, you might too.

Tony

Video Games:Arkham Asylum

batman-arkham-asylum-cover

Duh! Not only is it the best Batman game ever made, it’s also VERY reasonably priced at Wal-mart for 40 bucks

Movies: District 9

D-9

It’s compelling, relevant, and before you know what happened, it also sneaks up on you and turns into quite a good action film. Plus, the aliens reminded us of Zoidberg

Miscellaneous : My Weakness is Strong by Patton Oswalt

Perhaps not the instant classic Werewolves and Lollipops was, but still really funny. Get it now, because your friends are going to be quoting it at you soon, and it would help if you knew what they were talking about.

More recommendations next week. Until then, watch, drink, read and listen to that stuff!

Blindness actually was so involving I had to turn it off during that one scene- ugh, what a horrible scene and what a convincing, awful reality.
